It is planned to merge three institutions to create a giant psychiatric, neurological and neurosurgical center with more than a thousand beds. The profession has not been involved in the consultation, with the protest of psychiatrists and addicts.

The government plans to merge the Gyír Nyírő National Institute of Psychiatry and Addictions, the Béla Gálfi Healing and Rehabilitation Center in Pomáz and the National Institute of Clinical Neuroscience – on the 24th The exact date of the merger is unknown, but we know that the plan may be held next year, a fact that was also confirmed in our newspaper by the Hungarian Psychiatric Society.

The reorganization would result in a psychiatric facility with more than 1,000 beds. According to our information, the draft has just been known to the profession, which also sent a protest letter on Friday. Miklós Kásler Minister of Human Resources.

Among other things, the resolution signed by the presidency of the Hungarian Psychiatric Association and the representatives of the most important professional bodies states that the enormous institution created by the merger would negatively affect the development of the psychiatric and addictive professions and patient care. The centralization is considered unreasonable and professionally unjustified, so the ministry is requested to postpone the decision.

In the scheme that caused the astonishment of the psychiatric profession, it is also considered problematic that while neurosurgery and addiction are completely different and neurology is separate from psychiatry, they would now be consolidated into a single institution.
