The prosecution proposed 1 year 6 months and 3 years of conditional prison to András Fekete-Győr, president of Momentum, accused of committing violent acts against an official in 2018 when he threw a smoke grenade at the police during a demonstration. According to Fekete-Győr, what he did is not a crime. A preliminary hearing in the case was held on Thursday in the Pest District Court.

András Fekete-Győr, president of Momentum, was charged in connection with the anti-slavery protests in December 2018. Fekete-Győr then dropped a purple incense, available at a toy store, between two police lines, after the police fired tear gas to people’s faces without anyone asking.

In September, Péter Polt’s prosecution proposed that the court impose a suspended prison sentence on Fekete-Győr without trial. This has been appealed, so a preliminary hearing on the matter will be held tomorrow.

Deer Koppány Bendegúz and his partner get tired of the room! – So the judge invited András Fekete-Győr, president of Momentum. The party president entered the room a bit hesitant after not hearing his name, but later the judge clarified that he was referring to him by his “partner.” Szarvas Koppány Bendegúz did not attend the preparatory hearing because it is coronavirus. (A preliminary trial is an opportunity for the defendants to express their opinions on the case, but they can even admit the act and waive the right to a trial.)

András Fekete-Győr, president of Momentum, and Szarvas Koppány Bendegúz, were charged by the prosecution for violence against an official in connection with the December 2018 demonstrations. In September, the prosecution proposed that the court impose a sentence of probation of 1 year, 6 months and 3 years in Fekete-Győr without trial. This has been appealed, so the court is holding a preliminary hearing.

“I do not admit the crime that was presented by the prosecutor’s office. I take responsibility for all my actions,” András Fekete-Győr said when asked by the judge.

Fekete-Győr’s lawyer proposes a personal hearing of witnesses. According to the defense lawyer, these three witnesses were questioned three months after the incident, and their testimony, according to the defense lawyer, contains statements that differ from the position of the prosecution, so they should be heard.

The lawyer also proposed the exclusion of the testimony of several witnesses, citing strange circumstances of the interrogation. As an example, he mentioned that there are witnesses who are questioned for an hour, while others are questioned for half an hour, although a statement with similar content was made. There are witnesses who, according to the lawyer, were questioned for “less 15” minutes. If, on the contrary, the court does not discard your testimony, it requests that all witnesses be heard by the court.

In response, the prosecutor said that the investigating prosecution had legally questioned the witnesses, did everything according to the rules and the witnesses said that they spoke about relevant facts about the event. The prosecutor’s words also show that witnesses were involved in securing the protest.

The judge said she sympathizes with him more than summoning witnesses than excluding them. (There are more than twenty witnesses).

After Fekete-Győr did not plead guilty, the process was not concluded, the first ordinary trial will take place in January.
