It was detailed by the prosecutor’s office because it was suspicious of the contractor. They are asked not to be released.

A Nyíregyháza businessman is suspected of bribing HUF 800 million: the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Attorney General’s Office issued a statement on the matter. It is not mentioned in the communication, but it appears from the details of the case that it concerns László Bige.

The prosecution suspects that for years he has been ordered to classify as large quantities of waste products that were actually good, but therefore sold them to traders at a reduced price. Traders were then able to sell the products at or near market prices. Since Bigé was not named, they could not describe what this particular product was, but the chemical contractor was interested in selling fertilizers.

According to the suspicion, the contractor also agreed with the owner of one of the trading companies to recover part of the purchase price in cash after selling the product, which was described as false. In total, he took over more than 800 million guilders in bribes and damaged his own company by almost 2 billion guilders, writes the prosecutor’s office.

According to the statement, the suspect was arrested because the crime was punishable by 5 to 10 years in prison and there was a risk of flight or influence of witnesses.

László Bige, one of the richest Hungarians, was arrested Tuesday morning. His company, Nitrogénművek Vegyipari Zrt., Issued a statement on Wednesday stating that these are unfair measures, the “obvious driver of which is intimidation and damage to the reputation of the president of our company, László Bige.”
