The representative responded on Facebook.

On Wednesday, the European People’s Party decided to deprive Tamás Deutsch of 133 votes in favor and 6 against. EUrologist was informed. Earlier, some 40 MPs called for Deutsch’s expulsion from the Popular Party faction.

The decision did not exclude Deutsch but rather deprived him of all rights as a member, that is, he could not speak on behalf of the group in the EP plenary, work as rapporteur or shadow rapporteur on certain issues, or hold any position in the PE, mainly in the Budget Committee. and the mandate of the Vice President of the Audit Committee.

According to his Facebook post, Tamás Deutsch took note of the decision. He wrote,

I love the feast of the European people.

He added that he was “a member of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) in the European Parliament and head of the Hungarian national delegation of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) in the European Parliament.”

Fidesz has threatened to expel Deutsch, leaving other MPs with him. The exclusion of the politician was initiated by Othmar Karas because Deutsch protested against the criteria of the rule of law in an interview with the Hungarian Nation on November 25 and drew a parallel between the arguments of Manfred Weber and the Gestapo and ÁVH. Deutsch regretted his statement, which Karas was unhappy with, as he did not withdraw the statement from the Gestapo. After that, the Fidesz politician again apologized and withdrew his words.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán suggested that there could be a looser alliance between Fidesz and the Popular Party, which, according to political scientist Dániel Hegedűs, would be a rational step for both parties.
