In terms of real individual consumption per capita, we are still among the drivers of the EU.

Hungary had the third lowest real individual consumption per capita (AIC) in 2019 in the European Union This is demonstrated by a report published Tuesday by the union’s statistics office.

According to data published by Eurostat, in 2019 this indicator was 6 percent higher in the euro area than the EU average (100 percent). Of the member states, Luxembourg ranks first, with real per capita consumption 35% higher than the EU average, followed by Germany (+ 22%) and Austria (+ 18%) in 2019.

In addition to the three countries, six Member States exceeded the EU average: Denmark, Belgium, the Netherlands, Finland, France and Sweden.

In Hungary, real individual consumption per capita was 65 percent of the EU average in 2017, 66 percent in 2018, one point up to 67 percent last year. In this way, we will only surpass Bulgaria and Croatia, which will reach 58% of the EU average in 2019 (66% of the average).

If you also look at non-EU countries, Norway, Switzerland and Iceland also exceeded the EU average in 2019, and Hungary also surpassed Montenegro, Serbia, North Macedonia, Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
