In the last 24 hours, a new coronavirus infection was detected in another 4,153 Hungarian citizens, increasing the number of infected people in Hungary to 280,400. Most of the deaths were 181 elderly, chronic patients, bringing the number of deaths to 6,965. The number of recovered people is also growing steadily, currently 80,752 people, the number of actively infected people is 192,683. 18 percent of those actively infected, 21 percent of the dead and 23 percent of those recovered are from Budapest. . 7,646 coronavirus patients are being treated in a hospital, 606 of them are connected to a ventilator, they write on the government information page koronavírus.gov.hu.
According to the data, 25,239 test results were obtained in one day and, based on the new positive cases, 16.45 percent of the samples taken detected those infected. According to the WHO recommendation, tests are adequate if the proportion of positive results does not exceed 5 percent. But the domestic situation also exceeds the minimum for handling the epidemic, the 12 percent positivity of the test established by the World Health Organization.
Due to the high number of infections, it has announced emergency protection measures, which the government will extend one more month, so the current curfew and other protection measures will remain until January 11. The rules for the Christmas holidays will be decided on December 21 and the evening curfew will also be in effect on New Years Eve. At Christmas, there may be milder relaxations for the festive period, which will be decided by the government on December 21. Epidemiologist János Slavik cautions that people can be given a false security awareness if they are tested for a coronavirus before Christmas Eve, and they can do so if it is negative.
