If I could, I would ask Jesus for a PlayStation 5, but I don’t think I can get any more.

Holiday 444 Circle

I’m joining

We’ve been introducing Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox Series X, for a couple of weeks, and this week we also had the chance to test Sony’s savior, the PlayStation 5. We started the last test by completely passing out from the experience of unpacking the Xbox, but Sony decided in a completely different direction. The PS5 comes in a puritanical box, from which you get the console, which was previously wrapped in foam sheet, and at both ends were filled with space-filling materials similar to egg boxes.

Nothing of cicoma you fancy unboxing, you can go to the empty box above the closet. And what it contained was nothing more than a large UPC router:

Do not talk to me or my son again

The PlayStation 5 was quite large, then 40 inches tall and 4.5 pounds. The designers folded the plastic side panels the size of an A3 sheet until no pairs of parallel lines remained. As a result, it has become as sleek and well-formed as a Far Eastern car, which ultimately makes sense since Sony is also a Japanese company. This is bad news for those who don’t want their living room home decor to be a big plastic electronic gadget, as the console attracts all the attention you can’t help but notice.

The design was clearly invented using the machine in a standing position. Fortunately, they have defeated the players who prefer to hide their things in the cabinet under the television; By tearing off the little black plastic base, we can use a nifty design trick to place the PlayStation horizontally.

Once we have found the right place and calibrated the console well, we can also take the controller out of the package. Compared to the previous generation it got a bit bigger and rounder, again people with shovels were doing it right (me). The real surprise will not come while we study its shape, but when we launch a factory installed game called Astro’s Playroom. It’s a little jumping platformer that can be played in a couple of hours, designed to test what the new controller, called Dualsense, can do.

I do not deny that the state has fallen here for a moment, as the new controller is capable of reproducing the smallest details of the world around the character with vibrations so precise and subtle that it is difficult to draw a circle with words. This must be proven.

You feel the difference when the character walks on sand, grass, water or metal surfaces. When it rains, each raindrop is accompanied by a separate vibration, when the wind blows, you feel its direction with your hand. If the task is to pull a rope, you will feel the rope tighten.

The rear buttons, the triggers, sometimes had so much resistance that I was afraid to squeeze them harder not to break them, even though a motor only worked so hard against my finger as if I had to press a gas pedal, say.

We can almost feel the legs of the little Astro sinking into the sand

Sure, the drivers have been able to shake so far, but Sony has taken in-game sensory feedback to a whole new level. I would not be surprised if with this technology, video games appeared soon after adult toys Similar success would no doubt be achieved.

A wise man used to say: 3 children, 3 rooms, 4 wheels.Today you would say: 8-core CPU, 16GB of RAM, 825GB of SSD.The PlayStation 5, like its Microsoft counterpart, promises us that it will be able to run games at 4K resolution and 60 FPS without any problems, in some circumstances up to 8K or 120 FPS. The most significant graphic development of the new games will be the music of the next few years, a good starting point for this is that the console also supports HDR and ray tracing. ray tracing).

The hussars of Fehérvár arrive

The really big launch is now more about game loading speed. One of the things we tested the console with is Spider-Man: Miles Morales, an open-world adventure game that takes place in New York as a Spiderman game. We’ve gotten used to the fact that these great open-world games tend to run for a while to fill the city, but not so much on the PS5:

We are in the main menu within 10 seconds of starting the game, then for a few more seconds and we can play. This is also due to the single SSD that is integrated and optimized for the entire system in a much more organic way than is usual for computers. And while its performance is overwhelming, its storage capacity is less: the 825GB drive has 667GB of free space, which can fill up pretty quickly in the 50-100GB gaming world. At launch, there is no room for expansion yet, but we can only fit an additional SSD later by removing the cover and inserting a bare SSD, just like when we put additional RAM in a desktop PC. The optional SSD can be easily inserted into the back of the new Xbox like a memory card, I can only say!

On the gaming front, the PlayStation has been doing well so far: the older generation has released a number of exclusive audience favorites, such as God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, Gran Turismo, Uncharted, or just Last of Us. for Demon’s Souls fans, but even the aforementioned Spider-Man: Miles Morales did particularly well, especially compared to other superhero games. Of course, non-exclusive games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Hitman 3 will also arrive.

What can be a sore point for many is that of old games, only those that have been released for PlayStation 4 work on PlayStation 4, and not all. If you want to play retro PS 1-2-3 games, please don’t put your old console too far.

There is also a major lack of a subscription solution, like Xbox Game Pass, where we can choose from many hundreds of games for a few thousand florins a month. The current system, PlayStation Plus, costs 1500-2700 florins per month (depending on the package), so in exchange we can choose between 2 dozen fixed games, and we get 2-3 more games per month, which we can use as long as we pay the monthly fee. We can’t pick gift sets, so we can murmur if we never think of Sims 4 on our own, but looking at the offer of the last few months, we can also find quite exciting titles between 1 and 2 years old.

We don’t have it easy if we want to get a new PlayStation 5 now, even before the Christmas holidays. If we look at the big online retailers they all prefer a stable stock next year, of course we can get lucky sometimes. It also didn’t help in this sorry state that many internationally bought hundreds of copies for themselves and then resold them on Ebay at multiple prices, and they even managed to steal PlayStations from trucks already moving in England, somehow like Deadly. Iramban c. on film.

We don’t want to encourage anyone to participate in illegal activities, but we won’t lose anything if we invest in a new console only months or years after its launch. If you have a PlayStation 4, you can safely buy most of the games that will come out for now, and if you upgrade to a PS5 later, the game will also be updated to the next-gen version.

Available in two versions (that is, not available right now), the new PlayStation, which has a disc drive, costs 185 thousand guilders, while not 150 thousand. The cheapest is nothing weaker than the disk drive version, so if you don’t use such outdated physical media anyway you can easily save 35 springs, of which you would rather buy 1-2 more sets. If it would be nice to have a device at home that you could put a blu-ray movie on (you won’t), or if your internet is tragically slow to upload only 100 gigabytes of games to the world, don’t worry, the designers also thought in you.

2020 was an extraordinary year. The coronavirus epidemic and the deepening economic crisis that followed put us to the test, and the government has also used this dire crisis to further strengthen its already unprecedented power.

However, thanks to the readers, the 444 not only survived, it was able to grow stronger. Five new hires have arrived, five new blogs have started, regular podcasts have started, the second Macro has been completed, our new newsletters are prepared on a weekly and daily basis, and not by chance: our attendance has also increased.

In order for the newspaper to continue to operate and expand within a stable and predictable framework, we will launch a new system in 2021. There will be exclusive articles, newsletters and many other benefits.
