Anthem was sung, Hungarian MPs in Transcarpathia are being investigated on charges of treason

The Security Service of Ukraine (SZBU) initiated criminal proceedings against local representatives of the Szürte settlement in Transcarpathia for treason and other charges. The news was published by the Ukrainian news portal Novini on Saturday. The newspaper asked SZBU about the case in writing and the procedure was revealed from the official response.

The SZBU said that in addition to treason, the parliamentarians had also been prosecuted for violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity and forging documents.

No further details were provided, indicating that the investigation is ongoing. Thus, it was not revealed whether the affected representatives were questioned, as quoted by the MTI news portal.

On December 1, the SZBU announced that it had launched an investigation to find out whether it was illegal for local MPs to sing the Hungarian national anthem in Szürte, Transcarpathia. The incident still took place on November 21, but a secret video of the anthem was released much later.

According to the SZBU announcement at the time, at the initiative of the local community leader, some of the newly elected council members sang the Hungarian national anthem at the end of the municipal elections in October. THE Volodymyr Zelenszkij two members of the parliamentary faction of the Servant of the People behind the President of Ukraine, Vitaly Bezhin and the party faction leader, Alexander Korynyenko announced the same day that the matter had been referred to the SZBU.
