We have fought for our rights, we have rejected blackmail and everything that is unacceptable to our nations, because the debate was not only about the rule of law mechanism, but about the future of the European Union, Prime Minister Viktor said on Thursday Orbán in Brussels.

At a press conference held together with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki at the Polish Representation to the EU in Brussels, the prime minister said after the European Council summit agreed on the Union’s long-term budget and package of associated recovery.

In his statement, the Prime Minister stressed that the results achieved had a longer horizon, namely defending the unity of the European Union. The agreement is a good result for the future of Europe, because it is

it has become clear that the European Union can only function as a community of nations

– Viktor Viktor pointed out.

In his words the debate focused not only on the rule of law mechanism, but also on the future of the European Union. The agreement also made clear that the European Union is a community and an alliance of nations and states.

“We have done our job to the best of our ability, now it is up to the national parliaments to discuss and accept what we have achieved,” he said.

He stressed that the agreement is a protection of the European treaties, the mechanism cannot be used for political purposes. He also stressed the importance of changing the agreement reached on Thursday only with the unanimity of the leaders of the member states.

He also said that the veto is not a means of expressing political aspirations, but a legal and legitimate means enshrined in European treaties. Viktor Orbán also said that Hungary will exercise its right to bring the regulation on the rule of law mechanism to the Court of Justice of the European Union to determine whether it is compatible with EU law.

“I love my country, I love its people, and if we achieve any results, it is only because we are motivated and determined,” he said.

Hungarians are a great people who deserve fair treatment, added Viktor Orbán.

Mateusz Morawiecki said about the achievement, praising the joint work of the Visegrad Four (Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia) and sending a clear signal of loyalty to all European partners besides Visegrad.

Featured, the agreement provides stronger legal guarantees regarding the rule of law mechanismas a version of the proposal two weeks ago before the difficult and tense negotiations.

The Polish Prime Minister confirmed that Poland is following Hungary in requesting an opinion from the EU Court of Justice on the compatibility of the mechanism with European treaties. He said that it had not yet been decided whether the claimant would file the application separately or jointly with the two countries.

“We have the right to do it, so we will,” Morawiecki added.

Thursday night at 8 pm, two videos

“What happened, happened, we closed the last lap, we fell into the hands of the other, the agreement was reached, we defended the interests of Hungary, the landing was successful, Hungary is here, the Hungarians are hairy,” said Viktor Orbán in one of 16 second videos.

The other video is longer: almost 2 minutes.

“The verdict was born: I must say that even the most restrained common sense prevailed. We won.”

“In difficult times, such as the epidemic and the economic crisis, we do not have time for political debates now that they are holding back action,” said Viktor Orbán.

He added: this was only the first stage as “there are proposals on the table that many Member States, including us Hungarians, will not like.

Viktor Orbán sees this as a defense of the European constitution, avoiding the danger of imposing on the Hungarians by budgetary means things that they do not want to accept and defending the “money of the Hungarians”.

At the EU summit in Brussels, aimed at overcoming the budget vetoes of Hungary and Poland, the Heads of State and Government adopted without changes the full text of the German compromise proposal, which complements and clarifies the mechanism called the rule of law. .

Therefore, in return, Hungary and Poland have withdrawn from the veto, so the budget for 2021-2027 can start without delay and the establishment of the recovery fund also progresses along the original plans.
