The Starship, designed to conquer the Moon and Mars, reached 12,500 meters in a test on Wednesday, but the return was no longer so smooth.

SpaceX’s experimental rocket called Starship, an American private space research company, exploded when it reached Earth on Wednesday.

The 50-meter-tall, 30-meter-wide monster was launched from the company’s launch station in Texas. It did several kilometers (the device supposedly reached a height of 12,500 meters) when it exploded six and a half minutes after the start, on its return.

This type of rocket is designed to carry humans and 100 tons of cargo to the Moon and, eventually, to Mars.

Originally, the prototype would have been tested on Tuesday, but the start was stopped 1.3 seconds before start because the instruments did not indicate an engine failure and the start was automatically canceled.

Testing at Starshipp is still conducted today without people.
