Born in Prato, the forward became a well-known player in Vicenza in the late 1970s and later played for Perugia, Juventus, Milan and Hellas Verona. With the Turin team, he won two major championship titles, BEK and KEK.
Rossi made his debut for the Italian national team in 1977, playing a total of 48 times in the Azzurra squad and scoring twenty goals. He won a gold medal with the national team at the 1982 World Cup in Spain, and with six hits he became the top scorer of the tournament and was chosen as the best player in the World Cup. Apart from him, only Garrincha (1962) and Mario Kempes (1978) “tripled” in this way.
In 1982, Rossi received the Ballon d’Or of the Year. In the 1976-1977 season, he was the top scorer in Serie B, a season later in Serie A.
