József Szájer’s salary in Brussels amounted to 2.5 million guilders a month, even after outside taxes, and he doesn’t have to do without it for a while, even though he quit. Under the EP provisions, all outgoing MEPs are entitled to so-called “end-of-term assignment”, writes Blikk.

The newspaper recalls that this means an additional monthly salary for each year spent in parliament, which in Szájer’s case is HUF 40 million. “The allocation is available to all MEPs, regardless of the reason for the end of their parliamentary term,” EP spokesperson Sanne De Ryck told Blikk.

It is true that deputies do not automatically receive this money, but they must claim it no later than 3 months after the expiration of the deadline. But if their need is indicated, they will receive the benefit without special consideration.

In violation of coronavirus restrictions, József Szájer participated in an orgy in a Brussels apartment last Friday, then attempted to unblock police officers exiting the window, descending the gutter, who later found drugs in his bag. The politician had already resigned on Sunday, but at that time it was not yet possible to know what was behind the resignation. Szájer wrote that he was tired of politics and also mentioned “spiritual burden”, the real motive came to light on Tuesday when news of the orgy’s escape leaked to the Belgian press.
