Hungarian politician Fidesz informed members of the parliamentary faction of the European People’s Party in a letter. He also requested that the exclusion motion be withdrawn in this regard.

Fidesz MEP Tamás Deutsch also sent a letter to the EUrologist informing his colleagues from the Popular Party:

The accusations in the Hungarian press after my interview on November 25, according to which I had compared Mr. Leader to the Gestapo and the Hungarian communist secret police, ÁVO, were immediately clarified in a letter sent to the Leader the day after the interview.

He adds that he also spoke to Weber by phone the other day, who indicated that he would accept the apology. This is important because Austrian MEP Othmar Karas has tabled a motion to the group’s leadership asking it to vote to exclude Deutsch from the group at its next meeting. Karas also said that the Hungarian politician would either apologize or leave the faction. A total of 30 members signed the motion. According to Deutsch, since he apologized, the initiative has run out of reason. The Fidesz politician explains in detail how to interpret his press releases:

I have pointed out that I do not agree with a system of conditions of the rule of law that recalls a time when, on the basis of arbitrary political decisions, anyone could be punished at any time and for any reason. Therefore, to be unequivocally clear, it is not those who advocate the new mechanism, nor the rule of law, which is reminiscent of political arbitrariness, but the specific mechanism provided for in the prior political agreement between the European Parliament and the Council ” .

– read in the letter. Deutsch also notes that he is saddened by “the common practice in the European People’s Party that instead of holding political debates, some people threaten to exclude dissidents.” He considers that the threat of their exclusion in itself creates the undesirable appearance that the People’s Party intends to pressure the Hungarian government in this way to veto the budget agreements.

What is interesting about the case is that two days ago Deutsch addressed the public in a completely different tone, although, according to them, he had already apologized to Weber at the time. On December 2, he wrote that the proposal to exclude him exhausts the notion of domestic violence within the in-laws. And drew attention to that

The action of the 1930s shows exactly why the next punitive mechanism of the “rule of law” must be rejected by all means.

We have asked Othmar Karas if he will withdraw the motion as soon as he responds, we will update our article.
