Tens of thousands of wild geese come here from the northern tundra to winter with us.
Among them you can find almost all species of geese: summer geese, seeding geese, large geese, nuns, but even more protected birds such as red-necked geese.

Geese from the Scandinavian Peninsula and Siberia are greeted by a shallow lake in November, and the townspeople try to give them as much peace as possible throughout the winter.

A program called Tatai Wild Goose Sokadalom was also organized for the arrival of geese. Year after year, the event draws more and more visitors to the small town on the last weekend of November, and today it has become a bird festival that thousands of people were curious about last year.

Lakefront hotel, conservationists protest
In early November, a group of investors unveiled the latest concept for a hotel designed on the shores of Old Lake Tata. According to plans, the 120-room hotel would be built from 25 billion guilders, which will fit in with the natural and built environment, and according to the builder, the Old Lake will remain passable. However, in the opinion of the Hungarian Association for Ornithology and Nature Conservation, the implementation and operation of the investment would cause a disproportionate disturbance to the special bird life of the Old Lake, especially migratory populations of wild geese and other species of acuatic birds.
