Index – National – The largest group of wild geese of all time came to Tata

Visitors to the Tatar are not an everyday sight. The city’s sky is covered in the early afternoon by birds and descends along the shores of Old Lake and the smaller lakes around Tata with the roar of a huge bird. The reason for this phenomenon is simple:

Tens of thousands of wild geese come here from the northern tundra to winter with us.

Among them you can find almost all species of geese: summer geese, seeding geese, large geese, nuns, but even more protected birds such as red-necked geese.

A city protected by the Ramsar Convention prides itself on its natural wonder: it is rare for a lake to be hidden in a city

it becomes a paradise for birds.

Geese from the Scandinavian Peninsula and Siberia are greeted by a shallow lake in November, and the townspeople try to give them as much peace as possible throughout the winter.

A vacation for geese and tourists.

A program called Tatai Wild Goose Sokadalom was also organized for the arrival of geese. Year after year, the event draws more and more visitors to the small town on the last weekend of November, and today it has become a bird festival that thousands of people were curious about last year.

THE POPULAR WILD PEOPLE HAVE BEEN MISSED THIS YEAR THROUGH THE EPIDEMIC, BUT MIGRATION IS NOT NATURE.

– Zoltán Orbán, an employee of the Hungarian Association for Ornithology and Nature Conservation (MME), has already reported this to the Index.

In your opinion

There are not many large cities in the world where a large lake with a beautiful panorama is visited by 30-40 thousand wild geese.

This year, the staff of the organizing MME, the Danube-Ipoly National Park Directorate (DINPI) and the Száz Völgy Nature Conservation Association will bring them online, using the Internet, to

to reach nature-loving people, the unusual sight of wild geese flying in and out.

Many geese win everything

The Tatai Wild Goose Society community site reported higher numbers of wild geese than ever. As it reads on the website

It was perceptible from the events of the last few days that a new record could be set among nocturnal bird individuals. Experts have noticed a strong migration of wild geese, an influx since November 25, whose culmination may have been this morning, but even the following days can bring surprises.

The old record, 53,000 copies, was in mid-December 2014,

the current peak is 55,200 copies.

Zoltán Orbán added, although there is no possibility of organized programs due to the epidemic this year, but if you are curious about the wild geese that rest in Tata until March, you can see and hear their loud cries at any time at the Tata Wild Goose Society or on the official website.

Lakefront hotel, conservationists protest

In early November, a group of investors unveiled the latest concept for a hotel designed on the shores of Old Lake Tata. According to plans, the 120-room hotel would be built from 25 billion guilders, which will fit in with the natural and built environment, and according to the builder, the Old Lake will remain passable. However, in the opinion of the Hungarian Association for Ornithology and Nature Conservation, the implementation and operation of the investment would cause a disproportionate disturbance to the special bird life of the Old Lake, especially migratory populations of wild geese and other species of acuatic birds.
