“It’s no wonder he’s such a horrible figure,” Mike Tyson admitted in his 2013 film Undisputed Truth. Is it any wonder that Tyson, who was born in Brooklyn on June 30, 1966, did not choose the straight path even as a child? There was no one around to show him. He acted like a pickpocket, earning 100 “dollars” at the age of 10 in loot. It also fell regularly. “When he wasn’t behind bars, he didn’t go down too often, he just loved pigeons more than stealing,” he described his lifestyle at the time.
The notorious bite
Thanks to street life and prison, Tyson struggled a lot as a teenager. They soon realized how well he was fighting. During the fistfights, some nibbles slipped into the tactical elements even then, which became his trademark years later, when he ripped a piece of Evander Holyfield’s ear in June 1997; a year and a half ban was imposed on him.
The fact that at the age of 12 he met one of the greatest (if not Hungarian, Pac Laci) boxers of all time, Muhammad Ali, who visited the Spofford Correctional Facility guarded by Tyson, played an important role in the fact that he had this opportunity. As a result of this visit, he decided to become a boxer.
King KO
Tyson might have shone as a fan, but at the age of 18 he did not make the Olympics, although it turned out to be in his home country of Los Angeles. Just three-quarters of a year later, in March 1985, he had already played his first professional match, which was negotiated by a certain Héctor Mercedes, since Tyson had already knocked him out in the first round. This was followed by 14 more victories, each completed by KO (short for English knock out).
After another 13 successes, he reached the professional heavyweight world championship in November 1986. Knocking out Trevor Berbick in the second round, who is the last winner of the great Muhammad Ali. Meanwhile, Iron Mike, who was nicknamed Boxing, wrote a story, as no one at that young age, exactly 20 years and 4 months, became a world heavyweight champion sooner or later.
The successes, of course, came with a lot of money, thanks to the fact that, due to its large audience, boxing is one of the most sponsored sports in the world. Just to illustrate: for one of his 91-second matches, Tyson pocketed $ 20 million, a handsome sum in the 1980s and 1990s.

The failure was clearly due to Tyson “getting off the horse,” getting involved in more and more scandals, wasting money, drinking and using drugs, and had serious privacy concerns. On one such occasion, the future ex had just come home (also a donation from Iron Mike) with a Bentley, naturally received from Tyson, for the young, handsome and then completely unknown Brad Pittel. Tyson first thought, as he put it in his aforementioned autobiographical film, of the “gray and white figure” that one of Robin’s girlfriends had from one of the television soap operas (Head of the Class). As he approached, he saw that it was a man. Brad Pitt was completely passed out by Tyson, but at the same time he was scared. He yelled, “Don’t punch me in the face, just don’t!” – denying that something had happened between the couple. Pitt’s words were finally heard, he could come out unscathed.
Tyson retired in 2005, as he has since emerged, not permanently. Balance: 50 victories and 6 defeats in 56 games. Fifteen years later, this spring, he announced his return to the ring. He had already indicated that it would not be an official match, but a demonstration match, the proceeds of which would be used for charitable purposes. While boxing fans probably would have preferred a clash against Holyfield, who also found Tyson open for his boxing bites, ultimately the choice was made on multi-weight world champion Roy Jones Jr., 51. Whose balance must be flattened: 66 victories out of 75 matches and only 9 defeats. In addition, Tyson’s opponent in the early hours of Sunday faced an official match even two and a half years ago, in February 2018.
