President Donald Trump spoke to the press for the first time since the November 3 election. Although, according to preliminary results, Trump lost 232 power while Biden gained 306, the president is still unwilling to admit defeat.

Although the votes were aggregated by the states, the de facto population elected the votes of the electors rather than the president directly. For someone to be president, voters have to vote for him too, presumably Donald Trump is waiting for that now. Former US presidential candidates generally already acknowledged their defeat on Election Day or the day after the preliminary aggregation took place and did not wait for an electoral vote.

The electorate will officially vote on December 14, and Joe Biden will only take office on January 20, once the result is summarized.

This week, there were the first signs that Donald Trump was slowly ready to admit defeat: He had officially begun handing over power to Joe Biden without declaring that he had lost.
