According to the rector of Semmelweis University, around 15 percent of the Hungarian population has contracted a coronavirus infection.

Coronavirus: the second wave, the second closure

Later than expected by many, but in mid-November, the Hungarian government also decided to try to curb the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic by introducing restrictions. At the time of the decision, 5,000 new infections had been identified per day and the number of deaths from the virus was mostly between 50 and 100 in 24 hours. The first step is a partial closure, but how effective it is is questionable. Follow our news!

From data from four universities, it can be concluded that the proportion of those registered with a positive coronavirus infection is declining in Hungary, said the rector of Semmelweis University on Thursday evening. M1-in.

Béla Merkely said that on Thursday more than 2,000 infected did not mean that the epidemic had “gained momentum”, but that the numbers had increased due to so-called antigen tests, which are also used to screen teachers. “Then, thanks to the tests at the national level, there will be more positive cases,” he explained, adding that there is no discrepancy in the final PCR results, that is, inheritance tests, and even a gradual reduction in the number of infections. .

Regarding the Christmas holidays, he pointed out that if a large part of a family has already had the disease, it is most likely that they will not be infected again, since they know very few cases that have certainly reappeared.

However, this does not mean that those who have already suffered from the disease can behave irresponsibly, they must also comply with epidemiological regulations.

Béla Merkely added.

He also mentioned how many could have been infected before the vaccine came; according to their own estimates, about one and a half million, that is, about 15 percent of the Hungarian population. He added that the proportion of people vaccinated and already protected against the disease should reach 60 percent of the general population.
