The government only consulted the organization chaired by Viktor Orbán.

Coronavirus: the second wave, the second closure

Later than many expected, but in mid-November, the Hungarian government also decided to try to curb the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic by introducing restrictions. At the time of the decision, 5,000 new infections a day had been identified and the number of deaths from the virus mostly ranged from 50 to 100 in 24 hours. The first step is a partial closure, but how effective it is is questionable. Follow our news!

The government has not consulted with one of the largest organizations for the elderly in the country, the National Association of Clubs for Retirees and Seniors, which brings together 1,000 clubs and 120,000 members, “Life for Years”, the A popular wordÉva Hegyesiné Orsós, head of the organization. According to the organizations excluded from the consultation, the “showcase of 12 people”, the Council of the Third Age, could in fact have ready the text of the regulation to agree to it.

According to Éva Hegyesiné Orsós, for many it may be reassuring to have a time zone that is believed to be more protected for shopping, but members of the national club network for years would expect much more serious help from the government. For example, many people complain that

public health is unable to adequately treat non-covid patients due to the epidemic,

more and more people would need private care but cannot afford it. The government should think about how to involve private health care ”, the president interpreted the request of real organizations with real membership, adding that in a similar way,

there would be an urgent need for free immunostimulating vitamins, because after purchasing overhead and medicine and food, a fraction of retirees will have money left for themselves.

They are currently organizing a fundraiser to supply vitamins to members across the country, and the Béres Foundation will distribute Béres drops worth 8 million HUF in this round. Éva Orsós would also consider it essential that the government does not loot, but rather supports local governments so that they can expand their home care services, which many older people would greatly need.

Personally, Viktor Orbán announced that at the “request” of the Council of Elders (Viktor Orbán, president of the organization), the government would introduce a shopping time zone in grocery stores (or, as it turned out, in pharmacies and drug stores) to the elderly. On weekdays (Monday to Friday) between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., only people over 65 can enter the shops, not the most young boys. Seniors can enter at any other time, but only they are in the protected time zone.
