Two deputy editors-in-chief are now in charge of the newspaper, and the editor-in-chief can suggest the person of the editor-in-chief, but they do not decide.

It’s only been a few months since the editorial office was created due to the removal of the Index Editor-in-Chief and a new news portal called Telex launched, and the executives appointed in his place have already been kicked out of the top of the Index. So, in a limited semester, one of Hungary’s leading news portals has gone two rounds – follow the events in our article series with us.

The cooperation between Indamedia, which sells Index advertising space, and Index, can become more efficient and corporate.

– said Ákos Starcz, the new CEO of Index to Media1after it was discovered Monday that Indamedia Network Zrt. will buy back the shares of Index.hu Zrt. to the Hungarian Development Foundation, so that in the future the newspaper will continue to operate as a member of the Indamedia Group.

Index staff leaves

According to hvg.hu, Index Editor-in-Chief Pál Szombathy left due to a corporate conflict. The official announcement confirms this by saying that the president of the council, László Bodolai, will continue to be the media lawyer of the business group. András Sztankóczy, the editor-in-chief, is also leaving the newspaper, and the shares of the Index were bought by Indamédia, which is partly owned by Miklós Vaszily.

It was also revealed on Monday that Pál Szombathy, CEO and András Sztankóczy, Executive Vice President, will also be leaving the newspaper.

Starcz told Media1 that originally there would have only been a change in the CEO position in relation to the ownership change, Szombathy was offered to remain as editor-in-chief. He also added that they did not want to replace László Bodolai, chairman of the board, but after negotiations, the CEO abandoned the mutual agreement and Bodolai was removed from the board.

Upon leaving Sztankóczy, the new CEO said that he was going because he went to the Index with Szombathy and did not want to work with anyone else.

Currently, the newspaper is headed by Szonja Kitzinger and Zoltán Fekete-Szalóky, and the post of editor-in-chief will be filled later. According to Starcz, the editorial board can make a proposal for the person of the future editor-in-chief, but the final decision will be made by him.
