Hungarians spend a horrible amount on coffee in capsules

According to the announcement, the growth of the Hungarian coffee market is mainly driven by beans and capsules, but beans accounted for only 13 percent of the total coffee sold last year.

The breakthrough of capsule coffees came in 2018, when well-known brand capsule packs also appeared on the Hungarian market. Its popularity is also due to its consistent quality and the ability to make coffee capsules quickly and easily.

According to a survey conducted by Nielsen in Hungary last July, the coffee retail market expanded 6.4 percent year-on-year to HUF 63 billion, compared to HUF 59 billion the previous year.

Eighty-five percent of the adult Hungarian population drinks coffee, averaging 2.7 cups a day. 91 percent of coffee drinkers drink coffee at home every day and 53 percent also drink coffee every day at work.

The owner of Costa Coffee, the Hungarian subsidiary of The Coca-Cola Company, previously announced that it would increase its market share in the premium segment of the Hungarian coffee market to 20 percent in May next year. The parent company bought Costa Coffee last year for $ 4.9 billion. Coffee turnover in the group’s 28 markets amounts to 35 billion euros, they said.
