Sándor Csányi has been the president of the Hungarian Football Association for ten years. Looking at the results of the last weeks and months, the question arises whether he made the best decision of the period since 2010 in June 2018, that is, when he appointed Marco Rossi to head of the national team.

According to Sándor Csányi, the Hungarian team is a “good team”, a “disgusting rival” who is “completely rejuvenated” and “plays a safe game”. “We should not expect that only successes will come from here, as there will be defeats and disappointments, but the important thing is not to win all the games, but to show the upward trend.” – stated in an interview with M4 Sport the president of the MLSZ, who confessed that in the 88th minute of the substitution tie against Iceland – just before the Hungarian draw – he was already sure that the team would lose the match. Csányi said about the strategic concept raised in 2011, a ten-year plan is always the one that expresses the most intentions, but progress can be made in national football. “Today, football in Hungary is based on a much broader and higher quality base than before, this is also reflected at the top of the sport. The level of the Hungarian championship has become significantly stronger, the financial situation of the teams has stabilized, but at the same time their budget is still only a fraction of, for example, the budget of a good joint leading Croatian team ” – said the president of the MLSZ, who said that “in this last area” presumably there should be another level. As vice president of the European Federation (UEFA), the sporting director believes that this year’s postponed European Championships will be historic because they will be held in 12 major cities on the continent, but will also be a burden on UEFA and the teams. “Looking at the experience, I don’t think an arrangement like this is likely to be repeated often.” – said the president of the Hungarian Football Association, adding that if the venue is forcibly changed, Hungary will also request more meetings with the Puskás Arena in addition to the three group stage matches and an eighth final. Sándor Csányi, who gave a longer interview to M4 Sport, also said that it was a fantastic and successful year for Hungarian football, and he narrowly celebrated his entry into the A-League, mainly because “… because we could hardly be in the stadium”. On the other hand, they can counteract how many people within the team are affected, because if they follow the standards that we establish on the recommendation of our health committee, they have the opportunity to quickly isolate the infected. The other is that it can be postponed once if the clubs are the same, but physically it cannot be more than once because there is simply no day to celebrate matches. We are flexible because we also allow teams to make up games during winter break. One thing we cannot allow is that not all matches are played and the tournament does not end on time. Especially now that we also have to prepare for the European Championship. The successful qualification for the European Championship was a great achievement, which I hope will also delight the fans ”.
