According to information posted on the Food Chain Safety Agency website, the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes is common in food, but it only causes illness with a higher number of bacteria. It can also multiply at the temperature of the refrigerator, so consuming food stored in the refrigerator every 5 days can be risky if its composition favors the growth of bacteria.

Examples of hazards include ready-to-eat foods, raw unpasteurized milk and its products, soft cheeses, foods that contain raw meat, meat products, raw fish, smoked salmon, and salads made with raw vegetables.

Complaints generally develop between 1 day and 1 week after consumption. The characteristic symptoms of the infection are fever, vomiting, diarrhea, headache. The disease can have serious consequences, especially for pregnant women, but the susceptible group also includes infants, the elderly, and people with weak immune systems.
