The Hungarian Armed Forces are purchasing battlefield transport aircraft powered by Brazilian-made reactors from the Brazilian company Embraer, which will complete the airlift capacity of the airlift. The contract signed today at the Ministry of Defense was signed by Colonel Ferenc Korom, Commander of the Hungarian Armed Forces, and Jackson Schneider, President and Executive Director of Embraer Defense and Security of Brazil, signed at the Ministry of Defense. Under the agreement, the army will receive so-called ramp conveyors, a design that will facilitate the transport of larger loads and even combat vehicles of up to 23 tons. Large loads, military equipment, vehicles and personnel to deliver up to 80 equipped soldiers or 60 parachutes. Due to the special design of the landing gear, the aircraft is suitable for taking off and landing in poor ground conditions outside a paved airport, as well as for air operations with parachutes. Its equipment allows emergency evacuation and the execution of a large number of patient and injured transport tasks.

In addition, the KC-390 is suitable for aerial refueling of fighter jets and for in-flight refueling to increase its range and flight time, giving the Army a new capability found nowhere else in the region. .

In 2023-24, the KC-390s, which are also suitable for delivering large loads to the battlefield, will arrive in Hungary. This will complete the development of the Army’s airlift, evacuation, airborne and refueling capabilities. In recent years, we have acquired a multipurpose fleet for the force, with which we can provide the widest range of tasks within the national framework, in a sovereign manner.

The purchase will allow the replacement of the obsolete An-26 Ancsák.
