On Monday, an error slipped into the data service, which Müller Cecília He also acknowledged: more infected than tested were reported. The official website wrote that the number of tests would be improved from Monday, but this did not happen. There are some lessons to be learned from this before the daily statistics.

First, we don’t know what the number of samples reported per day means. If only samples taken are reported, it is possible that more infected people are reported per day than tests because the results are performed over several days, in which case the positivity rate cannot be calculated. If the analyzed samples are reported, they should not be more infected than those of the test, so it is clear that the daily number of infected is a figure of several days.

However, as the number of samples has not improved since Monday, this dilemma, which was not resolved by our operational staff on several occasions, is slowly becoming as insignificant as reporting the number of active infected people. Compared to yesterday, the indicator shows 27,292 more samples, but what this means is not entirely clear without an explanation of the operating tension.

By Tuesday, the coronavirus had been detected in 5,203 Hungarians, increasing the number of people identified to 152,659. The number of actively infected people is 115,193, but since the positivity rate can be calculated, it has been above 20 percent in recent weeks, so there are certainly many more infected people in Hungary.

Most of the 91 deaths were elderly, chronic patients, so the number of deaths increased to 3,281 and 34,185 have already recovered.

There are 7,477 hospitalized coronavirus patients, 576 of whom are on ventilators. That means they see 241 more people in the hospital in one day and six fewer on ventilators. The latter is not a real decrease either, because many of the deceased were also ventilated before.

23% of the actively infected, 26% of the dead and 26% of those recovered are from Budapest. The county’s data release has completely collapsed over the past week. In Hajdú-Bihar County, 351 new infections were reported on Wednesday, in line with the previous trend, only 25 on Thursday, 1 on Friday, and a total of 52 on Saturday and Sunday. In Szabolcs, the number of new infections dropped from 161 on Wednesday to 9 on Thursday, and no new infections were found on Friday. In Borsod, the 165 new infections on Wednesday were down to 15 on Friday and 31 on Saturday. Therefore, we do not even attempt to represent county data because it can be misleading.
