According to a report from thelocal.at, Kurz told the ORF that similar massive tests are planned in Austria as in Slovakia.

In Slovakia, two-thirds of the population were tested two weeks ago, and only 1% tested positive.

Kurz spoke Saturday about tightening restrictive measures to curb the coronavirus: Schools and stores will also close from Tuesday to December 6, encouraging everyone to stay home and meet as few people as possible.

On Sunday, the Austrian chancellor said a massive test would help the country reopen in December, but it is not yet known whether the Austrians plan a similar level of testing as the Slovaks.

Kurz said the tests would first target certain groups, such as teachers, and then extend this to other residents of the country to make Christmas as safe as possible.

He promised more information about the show next week.

On Sunday, 5,665 new cases of coronavirus were reported in Austria, which is less than in recent days, while the number of people needing hospitalization increased by 30% in a week and is currently 600 people. So far, 1,829 people have died from the virus next door.
