The Secretary of State for Internal Affairs, Raed Arafat, chief physician of the Romanian operational tribunal at the GSC, ordered the complete closure of one of Romania’s most infected county seats, Sibiu, starting Monday. Furthermore, Selimbar (Sellenberk) and Cisnadie (Nagydisznód) in Sibiu county may also close their doors, showing very high infection data.

The decree will come into force on Monday, November 16, but shopping malls, the most popular shopping centers in Romania, must be closed from the weekend. Only small stores selling basic food can be open, so that a maximum of two people can be in an airspace at a time.

At the moment, the provision only provides for two weeks of quarantine and:

During this time, there will also be a curfew starting at 8 pm

Meanwhile, with additional provisions added to the decree, Raed Arafat announced over the weekend that:

  • Between 10 am and 1 pm, only those over 65 can go shopping.
  • religious ceremonies can only be held outdoors (according to this, churches must also be closed);
  • Even open terraces should be closed immediately, restaurants are advised to switch to takeout mode whenever possible.

The Secretary of State told the Romanian hotnews portal that going to work would not be restricted for the moment, citizens would leave their home at their own risk, and it was up to the municipality to reinforce it. Sibiu Mayor Astrid Fodor said she would wait until the central operating court finalized provisions for the city and only then would she convene local decision-making.

By the way, Sibiu county is the most infected county in Romania, every eleventh inhabitant of every thousand inhabitants is coronavirus. The highest numbers are only measured in the capital, Bucharest. The number of people dying from the coronavirus infection in the county increased to 10-15 people a day, the morgue in Sibiu is also full, so much so that doctors had to ask for a container.
