The American company introduced two new models in the first round, the lesser known but cheaper Xbox Series S and the best Xbox Series X. The latter has already arrived at Origo Tech Base, so we were able to get a first-hand experience of what a new top console can do today.

Over the years, there has been a lot of speculation about what the new Xbox will look like. Well now it turns out those who broke the spear with the fancy design were right. The Xbox Series X is a completely simple midnight black brick.
The optical drive is hidden invisibly on the front and the connectors on the back. It can be worn both up and down according to what is most comfortable for the user.
Evolution
Each new generation of consoles is an evolutionary step, or in this case, more of a leap than its predecessor, in this case the Xbox One family. The Xbox Series X is based on the most advanced products from AMD, one of the hardware manufacturers biggest in the world. All of this results in
The performance of the machine reaches 12 teraflops, which is twice what the most powerful version of the previous generation produced and about eight times more than what the original Xbox One console knew.
An important innovation is that instead of a hard disk, it has been equipped with an SSD-type data storage device, which already guarantees higher speeds and therefore more convenient use.
And in practice, the higher performance is reflected in the fact that games can be more beautiful and complex. Specifically, there is a way to create 4K resolution content at 120 FPS (frames per second) with HDR support, a vast improvement over, for example, the previous generation Xbox One Full HD 60 FPS image. So based on the ingredients, and just the raw numbers, the Xbox Series X is definitely a big step forward.
Reality beats
Let’s start with the most important, because the new Xbox has many additional features, but the games are still the most important. So what is the visual world like? Does the human eye see a difference between the performance of the old machine and the new one? Or is it just a marketing hoax? Juggling the numbers?
Well, the truth is that the image quality produced by Xbox Series X is simply amazing. The jump over its predecessor (which, by the way, also lowered its chin at the time) is as if we were moving from a propeller sports plane to a supersonic jet fighter.
The visuals are pretty amazing, the 4K HDR graphics are astonishingly realistic, the motion display is flawless, there’s no stuttering, bumping, tearing, or duplication.
The experience during the game is often like participating in an interactive movie. We’ve made progress over the previous generation, and even with a calm heart, we know that pieces have been released in recent years, mainly Red Dead Redemption 2 and Death Stranding, which we think couldn’t be more beautiful than them. However, the important thing is that to get the best image quality, you need a display that can reproduce all of this. So specifically for a TV with at least 4K resolution HDR support. We tested the product on a 2020 Samsung Q950TS TV that produces superb picture quality for both movies and games.
There are already quite a few games that have been optimized for the new console, so you can take advantage of the capabilities inherent in the machine.
These include simulators, sports programs, and of course the very popular action games. Among them is the biggest name, the newest part of the Assassins’ Creed series, Valhalla, which took the world by storm on launch day. And that’s just the beginning, with just a lot of new shows in the coming weeks and months. Additionally, backward compatibility has been resolved, which means that games created on older machines can also be played on newer machines.
Xbox Game Pass
Games can be delivered in the traditional way on disk or by downloading them online, in a way that has been tested before. It is worth mentioning here the Xbox Game Pass, which is a very interesting innovative initiative from Microsoft. As part of this, in exchange for a monthly subscription fee, you can continuously play for 100 select shows for free.
These are constantly changing, and if one is out of the loop, it can be purchased forever at a significant subscriber discount. So as part of this, there are many programs to try and for everyone to decide if they need it later. Just a side note, as part of the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate version, you can even have fun on your smartphone as part of a cloud-based service with the original console games.
Entertaiment center
But let’s get back to Xbox Series X a bit more! The machine, in addition to being a gaming machine, is not also a complex consumer electronics hub. It has its own multimedia player program, thanks to which you can even record movies or listen to music. Its optical drive is up to UHD Blu-ray, ensuring even the best image quality. it also meets the standard. In addition, many Internet applications can be accessed directly from the computer, so, for example, you can even view our emails and even visit any website on the Internet.
So it’s a bit like a computer designed primarily for gaming, but it can be used for other purposes as well.
It is capable of working with a USB-connected mouse and keyboard, which can be very useful for the applications already mentioned. Games, on the other hand, are still mostly controller-based. We had a lot of problems with this controller on Xbox One. We spent many afternoons fixing broken switches, but it seems that this problem has now been fixed. The controller that comes with the new Xbox looks like an extremely rugged peripheral.

During the practical test, we concluded that the Xbox Series X was worth the wait. It is an absolute improvement over its predecessor, we did not feel any disappointment or disadvantage during its use. At the moment it can be taken home for 185,000 guilders, which is not a small amount of money, but if we look at this peak right now, and it will remain so for a long time, then it does not seem like such a large amount. The only problem is that it will take up all of our remaining free time.
