Index – National – Leaked footage: Media editor does not comment on matter

The Index caught up with Balázs Bende, the foreign media cabinet chief of the public media, who told us that he did not want to comment on the news about him. We tried in vain to find out from him if any proceedings had been initiated against him in the public media for the sound recording broadcast by Free Europe on Thursday.

Leaked Sound Recordings: Opposition Coalition Not Supported on MTVA

Balázs Bende, head of the foreign affairs cabinet for foreign media, issued the password at a meeting last March.

The leaked recording was allegedly made at a meeting on March 25, 2019, where Bende spoke with M1 staff about how to process materials related to the upcoming European Parliament elections.

Among other things, he says things like that on the MTVA recording.

CONTRADITIONAL CONSISTENCY IS NOT SUPPORTED.

Then he added:

If this statement reaches someone unexpectedly, go home now. For those who are not unexpected, the claim that the institution, if supported, means that we all work accordingly cannot be unexpected either. No doubt.

Balázs Bende also stated that no one should expect to be left out of political materials, whose themes are “mainly migration, mainly Brussels and others.” As stated:

Anyone who is divided may find it necessary to write material about it with the correct narrative, with the correct method and direction. The line-up is still that whoever doesn’t like it has to go to the boss, give up their resignation, and walk away.

After that, the senior editor drew attention once again so everyone knows where they work and what to expect.

Later, Zsolt Németh, MTVA’s news director, also attended the meeting, who for safety reasons also recorded how to “fuck”, for example with the help of suitable experts (quoting Miklós Szánthó, director of the Center for Fundamental Rights close to the government).

The Media Council is not investigating

As a law enforcement officer, the Media Council of the National Media and Communications Authority cannot examine what was said in an editorial meeting, it can only verify the content of published media, a board member told the Index, who he also revealed that they had not received a petition regarding the elections to the European Parliament. by content published in the media.

El Diálogo announced after the audio recording was made public, filed a complaint in a criminal case, and also filed a complaint with the National Media and Communications Authority.

However, the interesting thing is that the Media Authority cannot act in such a case either, since it can only investigate the content of the media reported within three months after its publication, and the process can start within a year according to agreement with the law.

They want personal consequences

Ákos Hadházy, an independent member of parliament, also spoke about the public media scandal, again called on Dániel Papp, president and CEO of MTVA, to resign on Facebook, and demanded the departure of Bende along with Bernadet Szél and Szabolcs Szabó.

The three independent representatives, who allied themselves with Momentum on Thursday, also wanted to issue a statement on the matter, but blocked it, citing the internal regulations of the Hungarian Telegraph Office.
