Elena Mladin, 82, has fled to Australia after trying to please her nephew, who is jailed for driving without a license, with his unusual stuffed cabbage. According to Euronews, the aunt is the oldest person on the Romanian police circular list.
Investigators said Mladin tried to smuggle marijuana cabbage into the prison in 2014, but the package got stuck in the control of prison guards, never reaching the recipient.
During the criminal investigation started at that time, almost two kilograms of cannabis were found in the old woman’s house. Elena Mladin was summoned several times but did not appear in court.
According to the Mehedinți County Court, the 82-year-old drug dealer has fled to Campbelltown, Australia, from where he does not wish to return to Romania, citing health problems. However, the General Court sentenced him for the first time in his absence to four years in prison, which in the appeal was reduced to two years in view of the old age and the criminal record of the accused.
However, the extradition procedure from Australia will not be straightforward, as the aunt will even have to participate in the legal process of the island country itself on the need for extradition.
