A rare pink diamond sold for twenty-one million Swiss francs (almost seven billion guilders) at an online auction in Geneva. Named the soul of the rose, the 14.83-carat gemstone was purchased in just a few minutes by a buyer who did not want their name revealed, MTI reported.

Benoit Repellin, an auctioneer for Sotheby’s auction house, called it one of nature’s largest gemstones, carved from a 27.95-carat rough diamond discovered in 2017 from a mine by the Russian company of Alrosa diamonds in Yakutia in eastern Siberia. It took almost a year to cut and grind the gemstone into the proper shape.

Repellin also spoke about the fact that pink is the rarest diamond, so the demand for them is the highest. The most expensive pink diamond to date, the “Pink Star”, sold for 66.7 million euros (23.7 billion guilders) in 2017 at an auction in Hong Kong.

The gemstone was cut from a 271 carat stone.
