On Tuesday, a proposal to amend certain laws on justice, put forward by Minister Judit Varga, was posted on the parliament’s website, and as hvg.hu writes, the package of proposals would also amend the part of the Civil Code on adoption, stating that children – relatives and parents with the exception of adoption by their spouse, only spouses can adopt.
However, in exceptional cases, singles can also adopt a child, but this must be a very exceptional case, as it personally requires the kind consent of Katalin Novák.
The bill states:
“The Minister responsible for family policy can, in cases of special appreciation, contribute to the determination of the suitability for adoption of a person who intends to adopt alone. When granting ministerial consent, particular attention should be paid to Article XVI of the Basic Law of Hungary. referred to in paragraph 1 of article 1 “.
Only recently has it been heard that the government is preparing to make adoption more difficult for couples and singles, but this current amendment may make this virtually impossible. So it was extensively written why this is problematic.
The bill maintains that research and statistics also support that marriages are much more durable than cohabitation, and that the best interests of the child should not be raised in unstable and unpredictable relationships, but in a truly enduring community of love.
