The gap between the Donald Trump administration and the Fox News agency is growing: On Monday, the channel interrupted the briefing of White House spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany as McEnany had just repeated Trump’s seemingly unfounded accusations of electoral fraud.
The Guardian reported that McEnany was right in the middle of Republicans, but only interpreted his own opinion for the channel. He reiterated the claim that Trump and his team have cited a lot these days that his party only wants all legally cast votes to be counted and that no illegally cast votes be counted in the election results. At this point, however, Fox News, who had long been Trump’s loyal ally, cut the switch and Neil Cavuto, sitting in the studio, said:
“Wow, wow, wow, I think we need to be very clear: you just accused the other side of fraud and offensive votes. Unless I have more information to back this up, I can’t leave a good image for you to see. ”
Cavuto emphasized that McEnany may have evidence to charge Democrats with this scale of voter fraud, and if they come up with that evidence, of course, they will come back to the topic.
Right-wing Rupert Murdoch-owned Fox News has long been one of Trump’s top surfaces, regularly calling on shows until the end of the campaign, but steadily deteriorating during the relationship: Leaked news said Trump was unhappy with more polls from Fox and election night. It caused outrage in the White House that Fox was the first to hand over Arizona to Joe Biden. Then Trump allegedly called out to Murdoch with a roar, and there were supporters of the president who began insulting Fox.
In Murdoch’s many press articles, then, relatively quickly, the new message became that Trump had lost and had to hand over power to Biden without interruption. However, some more influential Republican politicians still did not recognize Bident as the winner, while US Attorney General William Barr allowed federal prosecutors to begin investigating possible abuses during the presidential election.
As the BBC writes, the decision also leaves the post of an influential lawyer, Richard Pilger, who should have led such investigations. By default, state prosecutors must investigate similar allegations at the state level, but Barr’s decision means he has delegated the matter to the federal level.
Donald Trump still refuses to admit defeat and speaks of fraud, but neither he nor anyone in his crew has shown evidence of it yet.
