Index – Economy – After Orbán’s announcement: they survive a maximum of 3 months, then it ends

According to third-quarter data from the K&H SME Confidence Index survey, optimistic expectations for Hungarian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises have remained low. The index decreased significantly by 5 points compared to the previous quarter, so it currently stands at 7 points.

The research indicates that, although the value of the index has fallen, the expectations of national SMEs for a year remain generally positive.

The more subdued outlook compared to 12 points in the previous quarter may be due to a second wave of the epidemic, although the government tightening that takes effect on November 11 is expected to have an even more negative impact on the results.

Interest rate expectations on corporate loans have also deteriorated, with companies facing less EU funding and increasing public charge, while the SME sector sees its own financial outlook as more favorable .

  • In terms of revenue, the expectations of the largest and smallest companies have changed significantly.
  • Across sectors, business confidence in the service sector and agriculture, which used to be very positive, has remained low.

They don’t survive

Meanwhile, MiniCRM carried out a survey involving 280 Hungarian SMEs. It turned out that 8 percent of small and medium-sized businesses can withstand a maximum of one month amid restrictions of the level announced by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

  • Another 33% believe they will not be able to withstand the severe restrictions for more than 2 to 3 months.

It is almost certain that 9.4 percent of SMEs will need layoffs, and another 24 percent did not consider this result unthinkable, just in case the survey shows.

The scary picture is somewhat tempered by the fact that larger companies are often more optimistic than smaller ones, so the wave of layoffs may affect fewer employees.

Just over 10 percent of companies with at least 50 employees reported a significant drop in sales in the spring, compared with 46 percent of those with up to 10 employees.

They kneaded

Magyar Telekom also recently submitted two polls. These revealed that the domestic SME sector is now widely aware of its inability to stay afloat in the absence of digital developments, especially during a crisis comparable to Covid-19. Facebook presence is completely basic, almost outdated, more like Instagram spinning, be it a car mechanic or a hairdresser. Buyers want almost everything at once, both products and answers.
