Many healthcare workers are thinking of leaving the career because of the new law that will take effect in January, they do not want to sign a new employment contract, RTL News reported in a report Sunday.

On October 6, the parliament approved the new law on the legal status of the health service. Among other things, this will allow employees to be transferred to another hospital or institution for a period of up to two years from January 1, 2021. In addition, they have to choose whether they want to work in public or private healthcare, as second jobs must now be licensed.

The Hungarian Doctors’ Union constantly receives indications that many people would not expect the change in January, they want to stop immediately.

More than 5,000 health workers have already told the union that they are leaving the profession and not signing their new employment contract.

Judit Tóth, the organization’s president told the Newser that he said there were no reserves in the system and that it would already lead to disaster if 5 to 10 people left, but that if there was a massive abandonment, the health system would collapse in January .

According to Judit Tóth, the workers don’t really want to quit, but now they want to focus on fighting the coronavirus, not consulting with labor lawyers.

The Human Resources Ministry has said they do not fear mass layoffs, but are ready for amendments.
