Defending champion Audi ETO KC from Győr defeated German team Borussia Dortmund 34-24 at home in the seventh round of the group stage of the Women’s Handball Champions League.

The meeting was held in Győr due to the strict precautions and restrictions introduced in Germany due to the coronavirus epidemic. The two teams will meet again at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at ETO’s home, within the framework of the eighth test scheduled for next weekend.

The Győrs boast a record 43-game series in the BL, which has been running since January 2018.

Without the top three of the German band – Kelly Dulfer, Inger Smits and Delaila Amega – she arrived with just ten outfield players, and this time Anne Mette Hansen, Veronica Kristiansen and Fodor Csenge were missing from the home team.

ETO started well, leading to a 6-2 in the seventh minute, but Dortmund soon caught up, head coach Gábor Danyi called for time and asked his players for a more precise defense. After that, his team intervened again with a 6-1 series and, led by Eduarda Amorim, was already leading 19-11 during the break.

The reigning champion also started the second half with force, which was already ten goals better in the forty minute. After Amandine Leynaud, Silje Solberg and Laura Glauser were also well defended, but the guests tried to maintain their strengths and were able to reduce their disadvantages at times. Borussia also missed three penalties, so in the end they could not tighten the position, based on the image of the game, Győr’s team deservedly won by ten strokes, as they closed with a 72 percent shooting effectiveness.

With two draws in the ETO, it was his fourth BL win this season.

The most successful player on the field was Eduarda Amorim with seven goals, her teammate Stine Oftedal and guest Jennifer Gutiérrez Bermejo from Spain achieved it six times.
