Coronavirus – the second wave

Half a year after the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. According to the signs, the second wave also reached Hungary. Follow our news!

For more than two weeks, the Society for Freedoms (HCLU) sent a detailed data request to the National Center for Public Health (NNK) every day.

According to the HCLU announcement, after the deadline to comply with the first data requests, they received a response on Thursday night, from which the NGO said that two things can be deduced: either the Hungarian epidemic has no idea how it is. the situation of the virus, to us if we can get to know the data.

The HCLU uploaded the answers signed by the medical director Cecília Müller. In several cases, the Public Health Center referred to koronavirus.gov.hu, according to which the requested data (for example, the number of infected people) could be found there, but when they were interested in county numbers, for example, they sent a link to their Facebook page.

In several cases, the NNK claimed that the data was not available in the requested breakdown. The HCLU would have been curious about the coronavirus data broken down by districts, they wanted to know, for example, where are the places where no one is infected. They were also unable to send the demographic data requested to the NGO, where they were asked for infection and death figures for 9 age groups.

In its response, the National Center for Public Health drew attention to the fact that, according to a decision of the Constitutional Court, it is not obliged to collect data for the sole purpose of requesting data. This may have been indicated by the statement in the responses that “data is not available in the required breakdown”.

The HCLU has promised not to give up, they will keep fighting for the data.
