Number of infected

we are witnessing explosive growth, the number of cases in Europe has increased by one million in just a few days, and we are also seeing an increase in mortality rates

Hans Kluge stood out in an interview with the French news agency AFP.

In the 53 European countries members of the WHO, including Russia, more than 11.8 million people have been infected and almost 295,000 deaths have been reported since the outbreak, according to a specialized UN agency. In the past seven days, around 1.8 million new infections were diagnosed and 19,500 died from Covid-19 disease caused by a virus called SARS-CoV-2.

The WHO estimates that wearing a mask generally and strictly restricting gatherings could save more than 261,000 lives in Europe in February.

However, schools should only be closed as a last resort, the principal said, saying there was no reason to say that schools were one of the main sources of infection.
