Twenty unions spoke out in favor of a tax restart planned by the capital’s management to mitigate the effects of the crisis caused by the coronavirus epidemic; the document was forwarded by the Mayor’s Office to the MTI on Thursday.

The Mayor’s Office said that a union meeting on the reset tax was held during the day at City Hall, which resulted in the adoption of a joint statement by the participants.

It was recalled that the management of the capital city had initiated a temporary sector tax to mitigate the effects of the crisis. From a business tax point of view, this would mean an additional contribution for businesses above the HUF 5,000 million taxable base: they would pay a business tax of 2.5% instead of the current 2%.

These are companies, economic sectors that are not or less affected by the crisis, and the tax regulations of recent months have been explicitly supported.

– is in the document. As they have written, preserving jobs often requires compromises.

Now we see that it is in society’s interest to let those in trouble enter the community and have the opportunity to do so! Now we see that a reset tax could be one of those commitments for society.

They said. The amount received from the restart tax would create an opportunity for salary development for employees of the capital’s institutions and companies in 2021, the statement said.

The signatory unions ask the legislator to ensure the legal possibility of this, and in addition to the capital, local governments – knowing the economic situation of the region – can decide on the restart tax, the imposition of a temporary business tax.

The signatories to the declaration are the Democratic League of Independent Trade Unions, the Hungarian Trade Union Confederation, the Trade Union Confederation, the Trade Union Cooperation Forum, the Free Trade Union of Engineers and Technicians, the Trade Union of Remote Workers, the Trade Union of Science and Innovation Workers, the Unified Transport Union, the Union of Higher Education Workers, the Unified Union of Electrical Industry Workers, the Union of Water and Utilities Workers, the Union of Workers and Unions of the Metropolitan Transport Union, the Agricultural Union Trade Union, Union of Workers of Public Collection and Public Culture, Union of Officials, Public Officials and Public Service Workers of Hungary, Trade Union Confederation of Budapest Transport, Public Transport of the City Trade Union Confederation and Trade Union of Local and Urban Workers os in 2000.
