The Budapest Police Headquarters announced to police.hu that it was investigating a former lawyer for fraud and other crimes who had misled his clients for years. A company in the capital informed the 49-year-old man, to whom he transferred 200 million HUF, because he promised business opportunities, market research and financial intermediation, but did nothing.
Investigators from the Department of Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes subsequently identified nine more people than the fraudulent suspect with larger sums between 2015 and 2019 with the promise of investment schemes. There were those from whom he took more than 51 million florins from a lawyer, whom he has not fully counted on since.
According to the investigation data, it caused a total of HUF 535,425,272 in damages for the crimes. The suspect, in hiding from the authorities, was arrested in Budapest’s 1st district at his undeclared address on November 1. Investigators seized around 700,000 forints, computer equipment, crime-related documents and several motorcycles.
