There was a shooting Monday night at a synagogue in central Vienna. Witnesses reported hearing more shots. Our article is being updated.
An Austrian newspaper, Falter’s editor-in-chief, wrote on his Twitter page that he was killed and several wounded, citing information from the head office.

Vienna police confirmed shortly before 9 pm that someone had fired several shots in the city center, in which several people were injured. All police units were directed to the scene. Locals were asked to avoid public places.

The Austrian Interior Ministry told the Austrian news agency APA that a terrorist attack or wild march had occurred. There may have been multiple perpetrators, one of whom died and another is still on the run.
The Austrian daily Kronen Zeitung knows that a police officer guarding the synagogue was also shot in a life-threatening condition.
One of Origo’s readers lives a few minutes from the scene of the shooting. He posted this video and said there was an extraordinary broadcast on television asking people to stay home.
