In Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, the government office began assigning GPs with the corresponding specialist examination to the András Jósa hospital in Nyíregyháza within 24 hours, the portal read.
There simply were not enough physicians left at the institution to treat intensive care units and coronary artery patients.
County GPs know that the only consideration when scheduling an appointment is whether they have a proper professional examination. However, many are at risk among those affected: More than half of the county’s GPs are over 60 years old, and many of them are battling chronic diseases.
According to stakeholders, even if county hospital staffing issues are resolved in this way, it will create a void in another very important area of healthcare. According to a local GP, they also play a kind of guard role in the epidemic, preventing an unmanageable number of people from rushing into the hospital’s covid ward.
The staffing problems at the county hospital are so serious that, according to the portal, psychiatrists and orthopedic doctors already provide services in the Covid ward.
The general director of this hospital was Gusztáv Adorján, who died of a coronavirus infection at age 66 last week.
