The Slovenian government will introduce a ban on leaving home from Tuesday to curb the spread of the coronavirus, government spokeswoman Jelko Kacin announced.

According to the regulations, with some exceptions, no one can leave the district or city in which they have a permanent or temporary address. Previously, the abandonment ban applied to regions, of which 12 are in Slovenia, 212 districts and cities.

In Slovenia, non-essential shops, restaurants and hotels, as well as beauty and hairdressing salons and, with a few exceptions, kindergartens and dormitories, were closed for a week from Saturday. The night curfew came into force on Tuesday last week and, starting Monday, educational institutions switched to digital education with the export of lower grades in primary schools.

According to data released by the Ljubljana government on Monday, the number of infected people increased by 1,116 to 24,068 on Sunday. Seven people died, bringing the death toll from the epidemic to 248. Of the diagnosed patients, 523 are in the hospital, 82 of whom are treated in the intensive care unit.

Neighboring Croatia, according to a crisis team report, rose by 828 in one day through Monday, reaching 37,208 in the number of infected people identified. Fifteen people died, bringing the death toll to 452. The hospital cares for 864 patients, 65 of whom are hooked up to a ventilator.

In both countries, fewer tests were carried out over the weekend than in previous days.
