Seven people were detained by British Special Forces on Sunday following an incident on an oil tanker near the Isle of Wight in the English Channel.

The armed forces seized control of a boat and detained seven people

The British Defense Ministry wrote in a statement Sunday night. The tanker’s crew was reportedly unharmed.

We were informed that there were several vagrants on board who verbally threatened the crew.

A Hampshire police spokesman told Sky News earlier in a statement to British news television. According to his information, the action had no injuries.

South of Sandown, several hours of large-scale police operation took place aboard the tanker Nave Andromeda. The area around the ship was blocked for several miles. Coast Guard helicopters also participated in the operation.

According to the marine portal MarineTraffic.com, which monitors maritime traffic, the tanker was zigzagging off the coast of the Isle of Wight for several hours.

The local press first reported that the tanker could have been hijacked. This was later refuted by legal representatives of the shipowners, according to the BBC. The 228-meter-long, 42,000-ton tanker, flying the Liberian flag, left Nigeria in early October and was due to arrive at the port of Southampton on Sunday morning. However, the controversy with the sneakers seemed to prevent it.
