Index – National – It is a mystery what moment the Orbán government would choose

The European Union decided in March 2019 to abolish the biannual clock change in 2021, but it is up to the Member States to decide what time to follow, summer or winter. They mostly advocate the latter, but according to a previous poll, the majority of Hungarians support the former. In Hungary, on April 6, 1980, daylight saving time was introduced to save energy.

As we wrote in the Index, according to the Hungarian Sleep Association, sleep research experiences, accident statistics and much more warn that restoring the time to our original time zone would be the most physiological and healthy thing, we have lived in this system for thousands of years. In other words, this means that the current winter time would be a more appropriate option.

Last year, following a decision by the European Union, the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ) also spoke, and although it indicated that most of its staff liked it to be clear for a long time (daylight saving time results), there were arguments in favor of winter time.

The Orbán government can decide on the timing issue or refer the matter to Parliament.

The government has not yet addressed the issue. Taking into account the views of the Hungarian people, he wants to decide the matter later.

– this was sent by the Prime Minister’s Press Office to Euronews last March. The government’s position has not been clarified since. however, in relation to winter time, no later than spring of next year, it may be clear how to proceed.

According to a public opinion poll conducted by the Publicus Institute in November 2018, 78 percent of respondents were in favor of eliminating the clock change, 62 percent were in favor of ending daylight saving time, and 28 percent were in favor of ending daylight saving time. One hundred were in favor of winter time.
