The new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was detected in 3,149 new Hungarian citizens, thus increasing the number of infected people identified in Hungary to 59,247. Most of the deaths were in 35 elderly and chronically ill patients, bringing the number of deaths to 1,425 and 16,242 have already been recovered. The number of active infections is 41,580. 28% of the actively infected, 37% of the dead and 29% of those recovered are from Budapest. There are 2,449 hospitalized coronavirus patients, 221 of whom are on ventilators.

It seems that the new number of cases represents a huge new record in the epidemic, so far the daily peak has been just over 2,000.

The record was partly due to a jump in testing, with nearly 19,000 samples taken in a single day. However, the proportion of positive tests jumped to 16.6%.

According to the report, 2,449 people are already being treated in hospitals, 221 of whom are currently on ventilators. With that, the number of people seen in the hospital increased by 204 in one day, which is also a new record in the epidemic.

The 35 deceased patients do not represent a new daily record, but they remain relatively high as in recent days.
