It can even cover the world famous statue of David by Michelangelo in Florence. According to the Framework Convention on Cultural Heritage of the Council of Europe, nude public sculptures can be covered in Italy due to Muslim immigrants. The right-wing opposes legislation that is offensive to Christians, reports HírTV.

For seven years, MEPs have debated in Italy the Framework Convention on Cultural Heritage of the Council of Europe.

It establishes that the works of art of each country must not offend those of other ethnic and cultural origins, which in Italy means mostly Muslim immigrants.

The League, led by Matteo Salvini, has said that it will not be an accomplice of those who want to trample on Italian culture by throwing the veil that Islam demands on the masterpieces that the whole world envies Italy.

There has already been an example of covering the backs of statues in Italy: In 2016, the left-wing government led by Matteo Renzi covered nude works of art at the Capitoleum Museum in central Rome during a visit by the Iranian president.
