There is a sharp increase in the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic, which is expected to lead to a further increase in the number of infected, the national medical director told public media on Friday.

Cecília Müller put it this way, a very active phase of the second wave of the epidemic can be observed in Europe and around the world, and Hungary is no exception.

In the last 24 hours, 2,066 positive cases have been detected, so that since the beginning of the epidemic, 52,278 confirmed infected have been registered in Hungary, he recalled.

He stressed that there are currently 2209 patients treated in the hospital, 200 of whom are on respirators. Cecília Müller said in patients at risk

HOSPITAL TREATMENT IS ALREADY RECOMMENDED IN MEDIUM CASES,

In the case of certain underlying diseases, the health of those infected can deteriorate from hour to hour. The medical director asked those who were in the hospital not to be scared, that they could expect fast and safe care in health centers.

He also said that thanks to the so-called rapid antigen-based tests introduced in recent days, a possible infection can be identified even before reaching the hospital, which is of great help to institutions.

Cecília Müller recalled that according to the government’s decision, the mask should also be used in outdoor events and sporting events from Friday, as it is a well-proven preventive tool, as it provides more than 80 percent protection to the user and those who come into contact with it.

Given the students’ fall break, the head doctor asked parents not to organize programs with other children, but to stay in their own home with their children.

He stressed that about one hundred thousand children between 6 and 35 months have been prescribed the flu vaccine, which will be available to general practitioners as of next week. This amount will be enough to vaccinate the little ones and will be available free of charge as decided by the government, so it will not be an additional burden for families, said Cecília Müller, who pointed out that her grandchildren will receive this vaccine every year.

He said that the Hungarian pharmaceutical company Richter had made a product called Remdesivir available for clinical trials. This drug has so far been considered effective by doctors against coronavirus, in the presence of other interventions.

Cecília Müller said that 41 patients with coronavirus are being treated in 41 hospitals with the aim of treating them in a more focused way in the future. He stressed that university hospitals raised to the forefront of defense have enormous capabilities.

The medical director said that Hungary is at the center of the European Union in terms of coronavirus infections and deaths. However, he noted that data collection is not uniform at the international level.

Hungary, for example, considers all deaths, even those suffering from a fatal disease, to be victims of the coronavirus who have been diagnosed with the infection.
