Renewable film industry: 300 million florins can make a film about the life of Zsolt Bayer Balázs Orbán, producer Gábor Kálomista

The coronavirus and the fight against it. The situation at home and in the world.

In a longer article, we covered the decisions of the National Film Institute in the big fall when 10-17 projects received state support each time, but arbitration committees have also made some interesting individual decisions recently.

One of them voted 300 million for the project of Mega Film, a production company owned by producer Gábor Kálomista and director Zsolt Bayer entitled “Following Balázs Orbán” for almost a few florins.

What is exciting about a 34-year-old vice minister of Fidesz? Are its turn of the century years reconstructed on the basis of original recordings or are they reproduced? Was there a scene from Mandiner’s editorial office where he was a columnist? And when you tell Zoltán Spéder that you want to buy him the fourth Libri on behalf of Corvinus? I had a couple of questions so I contacted Bayer.

Who confirmed my worst guesses: the news of the film is true, but unfortunately it is not the young Fidesz painting that had a great career, but the 19th century. It will speak of Balázs Orbán, an itinerant writer-ethnographic-parliamentarian who lived a novel life in the 16th century, and author of the six-volume description of Szeklerland.

This is the Bayer issue.

“Of course, we are not making a movie about the Secretary of State, although we laughed quite a bit at what would surprise him.” The enormous work of Balázs Orbán, the description of Szeklerland, has occupied me for quite some time, mainly in terms of what has changed since then. The Trianon centennial was a good time for me to address this issue. ”

explained the well-known Fidesz publicist to our newspaper.

This 300 million documentary will not be a documentary, because with the help of repeated, movie-like scenes, it evokes the traveler to the East in his youth, who regularly delayed the war of independence, then became friends with Victor Hugo, and then returned to house the noble life of Szekler.

By the way, with the same title, following in the footsteps of OB, Hungarian Television has already produced a complete series of documents about the famous author from Transylvania, in 1992.

Furthermore, this budget-funded film is just one part of the Balázs Orbán project planned by Zsolt Bayer. The publicist told 444 that he also planned to film a completely different documentary on the subject and that he would publish a book.

In the other film, he will show the current state of some settlements in Szeklerland, also described by Orbán: “(…) presents some of the settlements that have undergone the greatest change in the last hundred years (where the Hungarians have dispersed) and those that have not changed, but either remained in the state a hundred years ago or even increased in population . “

The book will be a special reprint edition of Orbán’s famous work, complemented by recent data series edited by Zsolt Bayer:

“Faithfully following the Balázs Orbán theme, I compile the current state of the same more than 400 settlements, which Balázs Orbán compiled with almost sociological precision at that time. (Population, ethnic distribution, religious distribution, etc.) From this a similar publication will be made, a description of Szeklerland, on one side of which will be the contemporary dataset of Balázs Orbán, on the other side today, this will be a pretty good comparison of what has changed in a hundred years. “

Bayer wants to finish all three productions around the same time. Whether to apply for additional public funds for this has yet to be decided:

“I’m still looking for a sponsor for the book and the movie, I already have it, but I don’t want to talk about it yet until I’m sure. My book and my team are preparing the book for printing, I have not decided on the publisher yet. “
