Road cycling world champion Julian Alaphilippe broke his hand in two places after colliding with a motorcyclist at the Flanders circuit on Sunday.

In the last classic race of the year, the French cyclist raced with the Dutch Mathieu van der Poel and the Belgian Wout van Aert when a motorcyclist started on the side of a road 35 km before the finish line. The 28-year-old cyclist fell from a giant, his bicycle flew away and he fell on his right shoulder. Alaphilippe was forced to drop out of the race and then underwent surgery on Monday.

The cycling news portal quoted the member of the jury running the motor: Eddy Lissens, a former member of the Belgian police, immediately apologized to Alaphilippe’s team, Deceuninck – Quick-Step. He said he feels very bad about the incident, which has never happened to him in twenty years.
