The latest coronavirus test by the Austrian and Belgian foreign ministers was also positive after attending a joint summit with their EU counterparts earlier this week. During the week, several heads of state and government indicated that they would not attend the meeting because they had contact with certified infected people.

After attending talks with their EU counterparts earlier this week, the Austrian and Belgian foreign ministers confirmed that they had been infected with a coronavirus. Due to the more positive results, it is feared that the superdistribution event could have been a reconciliation in Luxembourg, Reuters reports.

Alexander Schallenberg from Austria and Sophie Wilmes from Belgium sat together for a group breakfast at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg on Monday, a spokesman for the Austrian Foreign Ministry said they suspected they were infected here. Schallenberg has no symptoms and has been tested as a routine measure. Wilmes said Saturday that he had tested positive for Covid-19 a day after entering voluntary quarantine because, in turn, he had characteristic symptoms of the disease. A Belgian politician indicated on Twitter that even earlier, one of his relatives could have infected him.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas tested negative on Friday and had no close contact with Schallenberg, her ministry said Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Anne would work from home until she received a negative test result in the test, his department said. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian has already traveled to Algeria because two tests confirmed that he is not infected.

Schallenberg’s only bilateral meeting was in Luxembourg with his Irish counterpart, Simon Coveney, but the prescribed distance measures were respected. Of course, the Irish side was informed of the illness from the Austrian Foreign Minister.

“As a precautionary measure, all members of the government will be examined on Saturday,” said an Austrian spokesman. Another infected person had been found in Sebastien Kurz’s office for two weeks, then both tests by the chancellor came back negative.

Péter Szijjártó also participated in the weekend’s EU summit, but regarding the Hungarian politician, the ministry did not indicate that he had contracted the infection. Commission chair Ursula von der Leyen and the Finnish Prime Minister also left the international consultation prematurely because Covid-19 patients were found among their colleagues.
